Roughly 50 vehicles have been covered with what appears to be human bodily fluid in the German municipality of Hanau in proximity to Frankfurt, according to authorities.
Vehicles, exterior walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with swastikas, they reported in a official communication.
Police report they were notified late on Wednesday night, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy area of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued fluid.
The fluid had been drawn in the form of a swastika, they added.
Law enforcement then found many other vandalized vehicles and house walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are prohibited in Germany under laws outlawing the public display of symbols from the Nazi era.
Officials state initial examinations indicate the substance was most likely human bodily fluid.
"At present there remains no clue as to where it came from; investigators are currently not cognizant of any harm in relation with the event," they commented.
Local authorities said they were trying "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the residents for information.
An important official stated the vandalism left him speechless and needed to be resolved promptly.
"This incident strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the pain of the right-wing attack in 2020," he wrote on online, mentioning the killing of nine individuals by a assailant aiming at residents of migrant background in five years prior.
